Bike Share System:have you heard of it Beverly Hills & Santa Monica…

Bike Share System: have you heard of it?Beverly Hills & Santa Monica are considering it. Boston has it.

On my last trip to Boston, I have noticed that the “air” was clearer then on my previous visits and visibly there appeared to be less pollution.

How is that possible, I wondered and started looking around and discovered that all the Taxis were all Toyota Priuses or other electrically powered vehicles? The bulk of the vehicular traffic was underground and various parks were strategically created all over the city with greenery and more specifically Trees. This was complements of the “Big Dig”.

I and then  saw all these uniformed  Bike Stands, so needless to say conversation ensued with friends and the “walking city of Boston” has turned into a “Bike Share: Biking City”. Our friends loved it. Basically you pick a bike up for discussions sake near your office and then you drop it off near your destination. Quite simple and all you have to do is pay a monthly fee and you have access to these bikes.  On a side note our friend has similar tastes great food, great wines and desert, but she was at least 20-30 lbs lighter then we were, since we drive everywhere in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

There has been a lot of talk in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica about implementing a similar system. Needless to say Santa Monica & Beverly Hills would be well suited for such a Bike Share Program due to our temperate climate with virtually sunny all year around and even the terrain is easier since it is mostly flat, unlike Boston, MA where you have quite a few hills to take on. What amazes me is both cities are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars analyzing the feasibility of such a program. We already have bike paths so what is the problem??

This I find for the most part a total waste of money. Here we go Politicians love to justify their existence by spending Tax Payers moneys in endless analysis. Why not just go talk to the people who implemented it in Boston, MA and ask for their Implementation Plans and just follow it with a few modifications to fit the local community and culture. Last time I read about the status of this program: Santa Monica has allocated $2+million dollars to do preliminary research and analysis of other programs. I mean REALLY???

The politicians are bogged down should this be a local or a regional program? Needless to say they are just incapable of making things happen. Next thing it will be a Partisan issue instead of what would be good for the locals, the tourists and the environment which would help all. Let’s be realistic the Greater Los Angeles could use some “fresh air” since everyone is driving from point A to point B and back to point AJ
