Did you ever hear of John Green? How about The Fault in our Stars?

Posted by on 6:36 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Did you ever hear of John Green? How about the Fault in our Stars? Well today I was walking around the Los Angeles Festival of Books and I saw an incredibly long line of people who were trying to get in to see this author speak inside one of the largest auditoriums at USC. The crowd mostly consisted of young adult females mixed with older people and young men. So I asked who these people are waiting to see inside.  I was told by one of the young men that it was: John Green. Needless to say he saw the blank stare in my eyes and said he emphasized that John Green is  a really great writer and mentioned a couple of his books: The Fault in our  Stars, Looking for Alaska and I could go on and on. Needless to say I had the same blank stare; the young man smiled and said oh well you might want to check him out. So then I immediately sent an email to Diane, since I did not want to text her, since she is always over her limit of texting. I got an immediate response back: “…well who you think I am trying to hear this morning?” …having had my answer I understood that the book that was on her side of the bed was that “blue covered book “The Fault in Our Stars”… with that information off I went to the “Cooking Stage” but that is food for another Blog Post.  About an hour or so later I get an email from Diane, that she would like me to get to the signing part of the place where I saw this massive line. She is still at the auditorium and wants John Green to sign her book… As soon as I finished listening to my Chef to be named later, I head over to the Signing Area. So what do I find no exaggeration close to a couple thousand young adults sprinkled with some old adults…. Diane and I connect and from 1:30pm we meandered along the lines to finally around 4:45pm when we finally meet John Green. Truly a gracious author, who decided to stay for all his fans that wanted his book to be signed…,. Needless to say all the fans were thrilled and my curiosity peaked. So here is a book I have never heard of, now I must readJ on a side note most authors are asked to stay at least an hour to sign their books. John Green was a class act, he stayed until every one of his fans was able to meet him and sign the book they had in their hand. I wish there were more authors like John Green who truly appreciate their fan base and give back. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2014: at the USC Campus!

Posted by on 6:31 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2014: at the USC Campus! As most of you who read my posts know, that I am an avid reader, a collector of first edition books and I love meeting the authors enjoy some small talk about the books they wrote and get their autographs.  Well the big annual event is here, downtown Los Angeles at the University of Southern California Campus hosts the annual event. This is the weekend when I do minimal Real Estate activities: no showings in all fairness, I do answer my cell phone, I do respond to my emails via Blackberry and text as needed. The delayed response is all connected to, if I am conversing with an author or listening to an author discussing something about his or her books. There are clearly a few major interests for me:  the Cookbooks, the Cooking Stage as well as the Mysteries, Historical Fiction and just the experience to hang out with like minded people. People who love reading and or collecting books and we talk and share our experiences about author signings and which books we loved and which ones we did not care for. The crowd is very mixed, first time readers, seasoned old veteran readers, book sellers, book collectors it is truly an event that is worth going once and if you get hooked you go year after year. Check out our Coffee Mug Collection, we go back to many years of the Festival of Books; the proof is in the Coffee MugsJ! So if you do not see me on Active Rain and not commenting about your interesting posts the reason is I am at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books!   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Better than Fondue: Sourdough Bread, Mozzarella Cheese & Kale!

Posted by on 4:36 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Better than Fondue: Sourdough Bread, Mozzarella Cheese & Kale Better than Fondue: Sourdough Bread, Mozzarella Cheese & Kale or just any round or oval loaf will do. Ok if do not have mozzarella then use Swiss cheese. The key is you want some cheese that you would use in a Fondue, the type that melts and most importantly is a gooey cheese that you enjoy pulling and eating with the bread. Those are the best ingredients for this dish! For my friends who want it to be a healthier more savory dish add kale to it. I love Lacinato Kale but any type of kale will work. If you are not a Kale fan then use Pesto. OK here you go easy steps: Preheat oven to 350 degrees Take a baking pan and line it with parchment paper Score bread length wise and slice the bread as if you were about to slice them for toasting. Cautions do not cut all the way through the loaf. The important thing is not to be too precise keep the bread in it’s shape. Spread the crevices of the bread and squeeze in there the Kale and the cheese. Then if you want to go to the next level and be a bit over the top put more cheese on top of the bread. Then transfer the loaf to the baking sheet and bake until the cheese is bully and melted. Check around 17-20 minutes later and see how it looksJ. The next step is the best part, take it out of the oven and serves it to your friends as “Finger Food” rip and tear to your heart’s content. Breaking News: Trey Ratcliff is “The Highlander of Google+”

Posted by on 7:49 pm in Active Rain | 0 comments

Breaking News:  Trey Ratcliff is “The Highlander of Google+”   If you are an active participant of many Social Websites, then by now you must have found out that Google+ has come up with a new “measuring tool”, or to be more specific an additional measuring tool. If not then enjoy this postJ! If you log in to G+ and go to your profile, then look at your picture. Underneath your picture there will be one or two numbers.  https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EndreBarathJr/about   The first number is how many people viewed something related to your activity, it is not quite as cut and dry like Active Rain as to how many people viewed your profile or how many people looked at your blog post. In typical Google fashion it is more “in the nebulous grey area”. Is it Profile plus, Plus Ones, comments on other threads, comments you received on your posts I could go on and on. The bottom line, no one really knows and I am sure if you watch Matt Cutts’ comments about it at some point in time when he will address this new addition, you will still  remain in the “nebulous area” and will not be sureJ what it really means. Then there is the number of followers you have. This number is based on your presence on G+ and other Social Networks and you have followers from all over that decide to put your Profile into one of their Google Circles. So with that said there could be a correlation of number of Circle you are in and number of Circle you placed other G+ Profiles. Now keep in mind I am strictly guessing, there might be no correlation to the “views”  Then you might have both numbers under your picture. Clearly that is an indication that you updated your profile since for some reason if you do not do this daily this number falls off your profile i.e.: the number of people who have you in their circles. So now with that said getting back to my original headline: Trey Ratcliff’s numbers are in the Billions not as your humble G+ member +EndreBarath  on Google+.  He is the “Highlander of Google+”J So what does it all mean? Well that is another great question to which I do not have the answer. If you do know the answer feel free to comment or what your thoughts are about this subject are welcome, either way I look forward to your comments.   If you are considering buying or selling a home, a luxury home, luxury investment real estate, luxury vacation homes, or luxury beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu, feel free to contact me at 310.486.1002 or homes@endrebarath.com or visit one of my websites  at  https://www.endrebarath.com. I am a pet friendly realtor and I contribute a portion of my commissions to local animal rescue organizations       ...
